The fact is that most of us are not concerned about how we live. We are most involved in how to earn a living. These are two different conditions, one of which is a pure brain activity. And the other is a brain activity with a far deeper, more sensitive and insightful existence. Part of this is the true activity of the mind which is universal, a deeper process that is connection with out effort. Because we are so concerned with making a living, we are cut off from the other because one cannot have one foot in peace and the other in war.
The animal kingdom is not at war amongst itself or its own species. We are the only creature on the planet doing that. The animals don’t strive to reach their potential – they live into it. They are all they can be! Humankind, on the other hand, live mostly in envy and therefore they are constantly consuming things to cover up their inner inadequacy. That is why death is viewed upon as the great inadequacy and feared more than anything else. Nothing in nature dies without beauty and grace – just human beings.
Filling our hearts with the things of the mind to cover up our impoverished state, we have lost the feeling for what it means to live. Living is a moment of joy and bliss. When in my daily activity I can be what I am fully, with a mind that is raptured in a state of attention, not in judgment or like and dislike. That attention has the quality of love. When one loves life one isn’t trying to be anything or become anything. What matters is living itself, freedom to explore life and be blown away by its beauty and ugliness. When the brain and the mind are free from the false security of what thought has built, then living flowers because one is not concerned for oneself but the concern for the one and the many.
Death comes to all of us, as did living. What we learn here effects the next generation by either decreasing or increasing their burden, as the previous generations have imposed their burden on you. Living is short, death is eternal but most die having never lived. We are creative beings and that creativity is life itself, longing for itself and the source of all happiness. To make a living and forget how to live is like being creative with primitive tools that have no value to meet the present challenge. Living is meditation when one is in tune with an order not made by thought or knowledge. Living is a movement that embraces death with open arms, how difficult it is to live.

It was with me for several days. The walk in the cool damp air or watching a movie, or any distraction I tried could rescue me from my self. The I was front and center, feeling the mercy of my own condition. Self was strong and doing everything it could to keep itself alive. The mind was simply perceiving what the brain’s occupation is, was, and will always be – hiding from the fact of its mechanical limitation, imposed by its own self-centered thinking. One wanted something and the brain was driven to distraction and still is.
When the brain caught a hold of it’s own self-centered movement of trying to put meaning to the state one was in, fear of death arose. This too needs to be watched for fear is self, ego, meeting the illusion of its own making. The brain then began to demand pleasure and wanting another distraction again – sex, food, comparison, or some petty belief about itself.
Nothing in nature is ambitious, but thought is always trying to become something as a means to find some security. Everything must be held, and paid attention to. As the evening slowly dies I sit by the fire and listen to the soft music. Yes, just another distraction.

The day was hot and the air was still. Nothing seemed to be moving and the stillness of the air made it stagnant with heat. Across the field you could see it coming – the rustling of the grass and the bending of the corn. In a flash it seemed to be upon us.
It was noticeably cool and vibrant but it brought only a tingle of rain as it fell. The temperature was sweet and brought with it a sense of relief. We would sleep better tonight.
Insight happens when the brain is still. You have an unsolvable problem and you leave it. When you do and it is out of your mind, insight comes and then you understand it.
External psychology, with its danger to all relationships, must be understood and set aside by the mind and the heart. Understanding comes only when thought is quiet and intent without anything self-centered in its approach.
Beyond thought insight is, and one cannot think oneself to insight. Thinking is the movement of energy through the material called brain matter. Anything that is matter is limited. Insight is without limit and is not the product of matter. It comes in a flash and that flash allows for perception to be possible.
We see in flashes and therefore see partially. Whatever you see through insight is the act of freedom. Any insight that doesn’t liberate is false and still part of thought.

The room was warm and one could smell the white flowers on the table. People were coming in slowly and each was carrying a burden that even to them went unnoticed. Each was occupied with something and the cloud of self was trying hard not to be affected or let the discussion happen. Soon the silence broke out and with it discussion and slowly self began to melt away.
If we were to look at any problem in the world, past or present, is there a single factor in all of them that is a common denominator? If you were to look at any problem in your life and solve it and I mean really solve it, which is apparently very difficult to do, is there a common denominator? If we look at the real problems in a human life such as hurt, fear, fear of death, loneliness, not being able to get the love we need from the people we want to love us… Now wait a minute, this question is a question that was asked at the last Friday group and it was very difficult for people to go into and answer it. Why? Because there are fundamental questions in our life that must be asked. And of course there is a price to be paid for asking such questions. That price is your freedom.
If you start to read your own book you will find it is the most important book to read because the whole story of humankind is in you. The experts do not want you to figure out your life and gain your freedom because then you are not conforming and that makes you a problem for them. Just think of this for a moment: if you were free that means you solve all of your problems at the very source, which is you. There would be no blaming, no running to be something else from, religion to religion, no fault finding, no criticizing, no nagging, no head games, just you seeing what you are from moment to moment and just learning.
